10K Training February 26, 2012 12 weeks
Join THE RUNNER’S DEN for our first 10K Training Clinic!
We will be incorporating the 10K Clinic with our Half and Full Marathon Training Clinic, already underway, on Sunday mornings.
We meet at the Collicutt Centre at 8am - upstairs in the dance studio.
There will be 2 divisions for you to choose from:
Run Your First 10K
and
IMPROVE your 10K
These groups will complete their training in time for the Woody’s RV World Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K taking place May 20, 2012 in Red Deer, AB.
Registration can be done at THE RUNNER’S DEN by the first week of February. (no online registration.)

WINTER TRAINING CLINIC 2012
10K (NEW for 2012! 12 weeks), HALF MARATHON, and FULL MARATHON training.
Join us at the Collicutt Centre Sunday mornings at 8am, and Wednesday evenings (6:00pm) at The Runner’s Den for 18 weeks of training geared toward the Woody’s 10K; Half, or Full Marathon taking place May 20, Long Weekend, 2012. 10K Clinic runs for a a total of 12 weeks.
The Runner’s Den clinic will begin JANUARY 15, 2012 @8am at the Collicutt Centre, upstairs in the dance studio. Most Sunday morning runs will begin with a 30-40 min. information session. We include independently owned businesses that offer our running community invaluable services!
We bring in guest speakers from Weber Physiotherapy Clinic Inc., to discuss and demonstrate the role of core body strength and how it contributes to the success of your running; proper stretching techniques; common running injuries: the causes and ways to avoid them, etc.
The Amaryllis Centre joined us for the first time last year and was a hit amongst the runners. They provide us with an interactive presentation of yoga and stretches geared toward runners to help keep us flexible, preventing injury. They may offer special yoga rates to members of our run clinic.
You will meet a nutritionist from Red Deer to discuss the importance of proper hydration and nutrition, and how these will vary with temperature fluctuations as well as your distance, etc.
There are other professions that join us on Sundays as well, and The Runner’s Den will do the bulk of the presentations in between.We offer both non-competitive and competitive training groups to help you meet your time goals on race day. Our clinic divides into “pace groups”. This way, you can join a group that matches your ability and experience and NOT feel pressured to keep up to anyone!

We offer the “friendly-competitive” groups as well where you can push … and be pushed to meet your goal!
Once you’ve found a pace group that works for you, you are welcome to move around to different groups if you are feeling like you want to ‘pick it up’ for a day … or slow it down a little.
Our non-competitive groups train using the 10′s and 1′s method: 10 minutes of running followed by a 1 minute walk break.
NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND!!!
Our pacers are experienced runners! They’ve all experienced being new to running at one point in their lives, running with injury, having an “off” day, having a great day … etc.
Your goal is our goal.
We can help you succeed, and we understand that “success” means something different to EVERYone.
If you just want to come out to be active and have no desire to register for a race, you can STILL join us!

Learn to Run Clinic: September 17, 2011
Saturday mornings at 9am sharp!
Everyone meets at The Runner’s Den, 5511 Gaetz Ave at 9am for an information session before most runs.
The clinic runs for 10 weeks with gradual progressions in run-time and distance.
All participants are provided with a 10 week schedule of runs to do on their own between Saturdays, x-training days, and rest-days.
We will be covering the following topics (and more):
- proper foot wear, sports bras
- diet, nutrition, proper hydration
- technical clothing to wick moisture, keep you cool and dry
- core body strength, flexibility, stretching
- proper body alignment
- self-defense
Guest speakers who are professionals from within our community will be present to provide their knowledge and expertise to keep your running experience as healthy and injury free as possible!
Clinic cost: $65
